The purpose is to distinguish the types of cerebral aneurysms known as paraclinoid and to choose the most appropriate treatment for them — conservative in the case of intracavernous aneurysms, or interventional in the case of extracavernous aneurysms.

This discovery was developed in four stages: the anatomical stage, the radiological stage, the confirmation stage through 3D-printed biomodels, and the surgical stage.

The finding makes it possible to distinguish, with precision, intracavernous aneurysms — which for the most part do not require treatment — from extracavernous aneurysms, which carry a risk of cerebral hemorrhage and therefore require interventional treatment, using an easily reproducible magnetic resonance protocol together with 3D-printed biomodels and patients who underwent surgery to substantiate the thesis.

This scientific article and its significant publication in an international neurosurgery journal is the fruit of joint work among neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and a statistical physicist, leading us to results that are extremely important for patients with cerebral aneurysms in this region.

My most sincere thanks to the neurosurgery and neuroradiology services of the Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM) of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) and of the Hospital Beneficência de São Paulo.

I thank all the healthcare professionals who make up a team devoted to the success of every surgery I perform: surgical technicians, circulating staff, nurses, anesthesiologists and neurophysiologists.

To the patients who took part in this work, for the scientific fruit they made possible and which, from them, was born so that it may be replicated for countless other patients.

New doors are opening for neurosurgery worldwide, and we are very proud to offer this work to society and to the medical community.
